VISITOR TALES: CARL G. WASHBURNE MEMORIAL STATE PARK

Dear OPRD,

Here are the Visitor's Tales for Carl G. Washburne Memorial State Park.

Folks, we just returned from a week long vacation around Oregon. We sought out Oregon State Parks as part of our plan for the trip and really enjoyed ourselves because of it. We spent 2 days at Nehalem Bay State Park, one day at Washburne State Park, one day at Cape Blanco State Park, a day at Oregon Caves National Monument (link opens a new browser window), and one day at LaPine State Park.

The Parks and Rec employees as well as the camp hosts were very friendly, professional and helpful. The parks themselves were clean and accommodating of our large group (two families in tents). Our trip did not include a rigid itinerary, and in scouting for campgrounds, we visited several private, Corps, and Forest Service camp areas.

By far, the Oregon State Parks campgrounds were the best. And the day-use State Parks were the best stops over several commercial or private areas. Great job. We were all impressed and plan to include Oregon State Parks in our future travel plans to your state.

Just returned from two weeks of camping in Oregon Parks. Our favorite park is Washburne with Cape Blanco a close second. We are unable to make reservations for our visit to campgrounds so we prefer the non reservation campgrounds. The sites at Washburne are private, ample, and well kept. Cape Blanco is central to many activities we enjoy....picking blueberries, drives up the Sixes river, crab & cheese in Bandon, hiking Humbug Mt. & Port Orford Head, and the local fair in Gold Beach. We packed alot into four days! Upon visiting your parks we are always encouraged by rangers/hosts to send comments on our stay. Thank you for another wonderful visit (we'll see you at Xmas) and thanks for all the hard work to keep Oregon Parks ready for the next trip north.
