Here are the Visitor's Tales for Viento State Park.
Dear Oregon park people,
I cannot overstate how happy we were with our camping experience in your cool parks! We camped for 3 nights on the primitive side of Viento State Park. This was one of the most charming campsites I've ever seen. The area was sooo green and the waterfall was beautiful. This must be God's country. The sites were well maintained. The restrooms were clean and well stocked. The trains come awfully close, yet they sound quite enchanting in the middle of the night.
After Viento, we moved on to Nehalem Bay. This campsite was pristine in it's beauty. Great restrooms (again). The short walk to the beach, a couple of hundred yards over the dunes, was invigorating and afforded awesome views and sand dollar collecting opportunities. We loved it!!! Thanx so much.

Now we know why this park has no camp host. Could it be the trains that
practically blow you out of bed all night long? This was one trip we will
always remember. The sound of a distant whistle (or in this case, not so distant) will always remind me of Viento State Park....

Just returned from three nights at Memaloose State Park. What a beautiful place! It is true that despite the temperature in the Gorge being in the 90s, the park is cool. There is a wonderful breeze blowing through constantly, (sometimes rather strongly )
and the trees provide welcome shade. We had the beach to ourselves on one of the days ... heaven.
PS. Why do the trains blow their whistles in the middle of the night just by the campground?
