Here are the Visitor's Tales for Cape Lookout State Park.
I just spent the past five days on the OR coast with my 6 yr. old and 15 1/2 yr. old children. We just had a great time and wanted to give some positive feedback! We stayed at Ft. Stevens, Cape Lookout and Beachside. All were very nice, the employees at each site were helpful and courteous. The showers could have been hotter at Ft. Stevens and Cape Lookout, but that's the only shortfall we could see! The solar power shower at Beachside was plenty hot enough. The scenery was great, the price affordable for us as we were travelling on a very low budget, and we enjoyed ourselves. Oh, and thanks for doing everything to provide such great weather! :-) We plan to return next summer around the same time and now we know the places of which we'd like to see more. State Parks are much nicer than the Forest Service Parks and personnel. Keep up the good work!

We camped at Cape Lookout State Park in August 1995 for a whole week. A number of family and friends from around the country utilized Oregon State Parks' great reservation system to get some adjacent sites. Our timing and luck worked to our benefit as far as the weather goes (almost all sunshine and warm temperatures), and we ended up with a fantastic week of beachcombing, swimming, hiking, exploring, and large dose of general laziness thrown in. Cape Lookout Park has an isolated feel, but really isn't too far from Tillamook when you need to get supplies or do laundry. Kite flying was helped by a near-perfect afternoon breeze each day. The campfires we had each night with are group are still talked about by our kids. So this summer ('99) we've made reservations again, and from far-away locations our '95 group is
going to reassemble for another week of surf and sand. See you there!

Cape Lookout has long been a family favorite of ours. It's quiet beach and great trails are fun for young and old alike. It had been a tradition of our family to camp each summer at Cape Lookout with the kids and their friends and we have many wonderful memories of those camping trips. The kids are now grown and out on their own and we have not made it to Camp Lookout for 4 years now but we planned ahead this year for vacation time and we are all headed back to Cape Lookout in August. We are looking forward to rekindling the tradition for the wonders of Cape Lookout.

We spent only two nights at Cape Lookout State Park this past week in early July 1999 but became very enamored of the site. The setting is great! The sites are interesting and varied and the staff was very friendly. Our site was a little windy because we were in an exposed area and the weather has been unusually cold this year. But we toughed that part out and enjoyed flying a kite on the beach and beach walks at low tide. The showers were disappointingly cool and not hot...hotter water would be a good improvement. We are hoping to make a trip back down and rent one of the yurts which look like fun! All in all this park was a good find!
A camper
I have camped at Cape Lookout almost every summer for the past 6 or 7 years
and loved it every year. My brother, who is now 12, and my dad, who is really
into campgrounds and their quality, love it too. We have always had great
weather and a great time. It is one of the best places to camp on the beach
that i have ever been to. I especially love all the different kinds of people
that I have met while camping there. The setting attracts so many types of
people but there is so much beach space it never seems crowded. Several times
we have brought friends or other family members with us and they have loved it
as much as we have. The only thing I think could be improved is the quality
of the bathrooms and even they are better than some of the campground
bathrooms I have been in. Cape Lookout is a great place.

My husband, 2 year old son & myself, just wanted to drop you a note &
let you know how great we thought your park [Cape Lookout] was. We had never been to any
campgrounds in Oregon, & found everything over the net. Our experience was
great! Once we were there & saw how wonderful it was we even added a day!
We are from northern Idaho &: kind of thought this was the best camping here,
but every camping experience we've had pales in comparison! The ground is
soft with sand, there were no pesky bugs, it was lush with greenery. Our
neighbors were even able to sleep under the stars with no tent. The weather
was great, the facilities were clean & being just a stones throw from the
beach can't be beat! And what a beautiful beach! We also appriciated your
offerings of "extras" like the marshmallow roast etc... If you have anyone
who wants to hear from someone with firsthand experience, please tell them to
contact us, as we had a great time. Even the location was perfect! We hope
to be back this fall, but will definitely be back next summer for vacation!
Thanks so much!!!

As a child I spent nearly every August at Cape Lookout since my
grandparents lived in Tillamook. There was no better place to be as a
kid. We played in the ocean until we were red from the cold water,
spent wonderful hours
hiking, making sand candles, eating fresh crab and roasting marshmallows
over the campfire. When I moved to Oregon I had to take my child to
Cape Lookout. Mom rented us a yurt two summers in a row. Each time it
rained at night but we had a wonderful time. Now I live in Southern
California and last summer, 2002, I took my son back to Oregon to camp. We spent one night in Melamoose, a glorious three days at Ft. Stevens
and three days at Beverly Beach. We were unable to reserve a spot at
Cape Lookout, but this year I am so excited because we have a spot for
four nights with our motor home. I cannot wait to spend time back in my
old stomping grounds as a kid with my son who is now old enough to
really enjoy the park, trails and beach.

My wife and I along with our two children 1 and 3 yrs old, just returned
from an outstanding visit to the Oregon Coast. We especially liked Cape
Lookout. The woods of D Loop were very nice and not too far from the
beach. There is so much to enjoy close by: Tillamook Cheese factory,
Cape Meares Lighthouse, The Air Museum and much more. We chose our site
reserved and paid for in total all on line this year which made check in
a real snap! It looks like Cape Lookout will be our destination of
choice for many years to come! Thanks.

The wife and I visited Cape Lookout two years in a row and plan to spend quite a few more years visiting this great park. The staff was very helpful and courteous. Security which is a big thing for me [I hate to pick up my outside stuff once it's set up] was some of the best I've seen. The campground was very well maintained. Although, after reading the letters I do have to agree that the showers could be a little warmer. But they did tend to get the blood going first thing in the morning. All in all I can not say enough good things about the staff and maint staff.
I also reserved my campsite over the net. How nice. Things went off without a hitch.
In closing I think the staff at Cape Lookout should get two thumbs up for their professional manner and dedication.
[Editor's note: in spite of the fact state parks are generally safe, it is still a good idea to pack your portable camping equipment (like coolers, stoves and chairs) away in a secure place when you leave your site.]

I just wanted to write a little note about our first camping (RVing) trip to Oregon in 15 years, which we enjoyed very much. We are from British Columbia, and used to travel to the US quite a bit before we retired up here 7 years ago. This was the first time we have ever camped in state parks. We enjoyed the coast (Cape Lookout and South Beach) We prefered South Beach as it was closer to amenities. We went to Memaloose intending just to overnight on our way home, however we found it one of the best-run campgrounds we had been to. The camp hosts were really terrific, and our site was very clean and even raked! The hosts came by in the evening to see if we needed wood. They were available all of the time we were there (Sept 27 - 29). As I had mentioned, we had only planned to overnight, but after passing some of the sights on the way, we decided we need at least a day to discover some of the area. We traveled some of Highway 30, really enjoyed Multnomah Falls and found Crown Point so beautiful, I hope the money can be found to restore the building soon. I would love to see it. We hope to come back before to long and do some more exploring as we know we have hardly touched all that can be seen. We know that we have a very beautiful place here in BC, however I was thrilled to find so much beauty there in Oregon and so many wonderful State Parks.
Thanks for making us feel welcome.
